Aurora by Guido Reni

Aurora (1614)

Guido Reni | Baroque | Fresco

Apollo, the sun god, races across the sky in a chariot pulled by four horses. Aurora, the goddess of dawn, flies ahead of him scattering flowers, a little cherub with a torch soars above the horses, and dancing women called the Hours circle the chariot!

Did you know? Reni painted this right onto a ceiling, but he gave it a painted frame so it looks like a framed picture lifted up there! It is about 23 feet wide.
