A Sunday on La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat
A Sunday on La Grande Jatte (1886)
Georges Seurat | Pointillism | Oil on canvas
This giant painting, about 7 feet tall and 10 feet wide, is made of tiny dots and dabs of color! If you get really close, you can see all the dots, but step back and they become people in a park!
Did you know? Look for the woman at the right walking a pet monkey on a leash! Seurat worked on this painting from 1884 to 1886, and a few years later he painted a border of dots all around its edge.
