Little Girl in a Blue Armchair by Mary Cassatt
Little Girl in a Blue Armchair (1878)
Mary Cassatt | Impressionism | Oil on canvas
A bored little girl slouches in a big blue armchair while a little dog naps in the chair beside her. Looks like someone doesn't want to sit still!
Did you know? Cassatt's friend Edgar Degas gave her advice on the background and even painted part of it himself. When the American section of the 1878 World's Fair turned the painting down, Cassatt was furious, all the more because Degas had worked on it!
