The Channel of Gravelines, Petit Fort Philippe by Georges Seurat
The Channel of Gravelines, Petit Fort Philippe (1890)
Georges Seurat | Post-Impressionism | Oil on canvas
A peaceful harbor scene with calm blue water and a few boats resting quietly. Seurat built it from tiny dots of color, making the scene shimmer! He painted it in the summer of 1890, one of the last four landscapes he ever made.
Did you know? Seurat designed a special frame for this picture! The frame around it today copies his design: a deep blue base covered in dots that echo the painting.
