The Snake Charmer by Henri Rousseau
The Snake Charmer (1907)
Henri Rousseau | Naïve Art | Oil on canvas
Under a bright full moon, a mysterious figure plays a flute in a magical jungle while snakes listen to the enchanting music!
Did you know? This was Rousseau's first large commission, ordered by Berthe, Countess de Delaunay, the mother of the painter Robert Delaunay. Rousseau never left France, so he drew his jungle plants from visits to the Paris botanical garden and from magazines!
