Syndics of the Drapers' Guild by Rembrandt
Syndics of the Drapers' Guild (1662)
Rembrandt | Baroque | Oil on canvas
Five important businessmen in fancy black hats sit around a table covered with a beautiful red cloth. They're inspecting cloth samples to make sure the quality is good!
Did you know? These men were the 'quality inspectors' of their time. They marked cloth with little lead seals: one seal for the lowest grade, up to four seals for the very best! Rembrandt made it look like they're just looking up from their work as you walk in.
