The Swimming Hole (1885)
Thomas Eakins | Realism | Oil on canvas
Six friends rest, dive and swim at a rocky swimming spot on a sunny day. One dives headfirst into the water while a dog swims nearby!
Did you know? Eakins put himself in the painting too: he's the swimmer in the water at the bottom right. And the dog is real too: it's Harry, his own Irish setter!
