Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised!) by Henri Rousseau
Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised!) (1891)
Henri Rousseau | Post-Impressionism | Oil on canvas
A fierce tiger crouches in a wild jungle as rain pours down and lightning flashes! Every leaf looks like it's blowing in the storm!
Did you know? Rousseau never left France, so this jungle came from his imagination! He studied tropical plants at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, and built his tiger from stuffed animals, magazine pictures and ordinary house cats. He added the rain last, as silver-gray streaks over the whole picture!
