Cusco's Virgen de Belen is one of the holy images carried in procession around the city's main square at Corpus Christi, and Cusco School painters made pictures of her. An unidentified painter, working around 1700, laid gold leaf in brocade patterns, a technique called brocateado, so the cloth seems to shimmer like woven brocade.
Unidentified Cusco School artist, 1700. Museum-grade giclee print of the public-domain original.
