Judith and the Head of Holofernes by Gustav Klimt
Judith and the Head of Holofernes (1901)
Gustav Klimt | Art Nouveau | Oil and gold leaf on canvas
A powerful woman decorated in gold holds her prize. Her eyes are half-closed and mysterious as she stands against a golden background.
Did you know? The frame was made by Klimt's brother Georg, with the words Judith and Holofernes engraved on it so nobody would mix her up with Salome, another famous woman from old stories. Critics mixed them up anyway!
