Lady in a Green Jacket by August Macke
Lady in a Green Jacket (1913)
August Macke | Expressionism | Oil on canvas
A woman in a green jacket and a bright red hat stands on a lakeside path in autumn light, with a deep blue lake behind her. Look closely: the faces of the people are only hinted at, so the colors do all the talking!
Did you know? Macke painted this while living for about eight months in Hilterfingen, a village on Lake Thun in Switzerland. Around then he was inspired by Robert Delaunay's Window paintings, which are built from small patches of bright color.
