Morning in a Pine Forest by Ivan Shishkin
Morning in a Pine Forest (1889)
Ivan Shishkin | Realism | Oil on canvas
A playful family of four bears climbs on a fallen tree in a misty forest! Morning sunlight filters through the tall pine trees.
Did you know? Fellow painter Konstantin Savitsky painted the bears, and at first both artists signed the canvas. The story goes that the buyer, Pavel Tretyakov, had Savitsky's name removed, saying the whole picture, from idea to brushwork, showed Shishkin's way of painting.
