Night Rain at Karasaki by Utagawa Hiroshige
Night Rain at Karasaki (1835)
Utagawa Hiroshige | Ukiyo-e | Woodblock print
A famous old pine tree stands alone in the rain at night. The dark sky and slanting rain lines create a moody, mysterious feeling!
Did you know? The famous pine in this print was planted in 1591, after a strong wind blew down the tree before it, so it was about 240 years old when Hiroshige drew it. That pine died in 1921, and a younger one stands in its place today.
