The Circus by Georges Seurat
The Circus (1891)
Georges Seurat | Pointillism | Oil on canvas
A circus performer does tricks on a white horse while a clown watches! The crowd cheers from rows of benches as acrobats tumble through the air!
Did you know? Seurat never finished this painting. He showed it in March 1891, just days before he died at age 31, and in places you can still see the white base layer and the grid of blue lines he used to plan it!
